While OS X reported the drives in the machine in proper bay order, Windows 7 did not. After playing around with OS X 10.6 and seeing that if certainly felt faster on the same hardware than 10.5, I started Boot Camp and told it which drive I wanted to use for Windows and away I went.Īfter booting off the Windows 7 圆4 DVD, I had my first scary moment.

Removed every partition, so yes it was scary (wasn't totally sure restoring mac OSX would work). Windows couldn't remove some of the partitions. So i had to change some of them in Fdisk guid partitions were marked as non deletable. Eventually after some fiddling I got all the partitions, off. Installed windows 8, (should have installed 7 then upgraded to 8, if you don't go in this order then you will have to call microsoft when their tech support is available.) Once i got windows 8 installed i was able to install bootcamp. Which didn't completely work because it couldn't see the mac partition. Then to get the touch pad not to be annoying i changed a registry setting to disable tap to click.

Had to install the nvidia drivers to be able to use some apps.
The Netflix app wouldn't work without new video drivers. Then I had issues with the keyboard unless if the bootcamp applet was loaded.
The brightness up and down weren't working. Had to change some settings in the power options to get it to stop being too dim. Then had problems with sound drivers, they didn't work right either. It was still doing some weird stuff like. So eventually I decided to go back to mac OSX. So I rebooted with command-R and the computer booted and showed a globe for the apple recovery. It took 6 minutes to load the recovery up. Then after I installed lion i had to download all my updates and put my data back. The apple recovery worked even after all partitions had been destroyed. So i was pleased with the internet recovery.Xcode is Apple’s IDE for creating applications for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Apart from SDK’s for iPhone/iPad application development, it also comes bundled with gcc compiler and other Unix utilities which are required for installation of many other packages. For my case, I wanted to install gnuplot, a tool for generating graphs and plots based on my data. Similar to APT (Advanced Packaging Tool), available on Debian Linux distribution systems, we have MacPorts for Mac-OS.

Otherwise, you are required to pay for the Software.
Though it might not have all the features of latest release of Xcode but for many use-cases, it would be sufficient. Starting the installation program from DVD was pretty straight-forward. But towards the end, the installation failed without giving any reasons. I looked at Apple developer center and after lot of searching around, found a downloadable version of Xcode installer. It’s a huge file (more than 3.5 GB) so took quite some time on my not so fast Internet connection. Again the same results and I went again searching for possible solutions.
